Bob Jones University put out a call for art grads to participate in an upcoming art show called "Exquisite Terrible". I toyed with several ideas for art pieces, and finally decided to illustrate the theme of the show through literature. The "exquisite" are four well-written books that involve "terrible" elements as major plot points. From left to right, I illustrated scenes from Robinson Crusoe, War of the Worlds, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and Dracula. The books I chose are linked though the uniqueness of their plot conflicts. Robinson Crusoe deals with man verses nature, War of the Worlds deals with man verses the otherworldly, Dr. Jekyll deals with man verses himself, and Dracula deals with man verses the supernatural.
